NEW RIFF FACTORY

We’ve been trialling a new rehearsal space. It’s pretty wholesome and has a masculine and musical musk. Our friends bands rehearse down there too which is nice. Here’s some photos of the new riff factory in action.

And yes, that’s Dave with six strings in hand. The world has gone topsy-turvy. And tuned to C.

Paper Spine Tour

We did a pretty whirl wind trip up and down the East coast (and Adelaide, is that the East coast?) in support of Paper Spine. It’s a bit of a hazy blur, but it was damn good fun. It’s a blast to finally have this album out in the world and to be hitting stages more regularly to show it off a little.

Below is a quick recap of that which remains in my increasingly fractured memory from the tour, and a few happy family snaps.

ADELAIDE

• Jay coined the term ‘Riding the snake’ while he was ‘On the fang’ and scared some poor dude who was there for Adelaide Fringe Festival trying to convince us not to go to our own show.

• Adelaide not only still sells Toohey’s Extra Dry Platinum (?!) but it’s the cheapest beer they have at Enigma Bar! Go figure.

• Apparently it’s the murder capital of the Southern Hemisphere… There was a retaliation bikie shooting a few doors down from the venue we played. They shut off the street and everything. We played 3:30 Drive By and a dude actually got shot in a drive by. We are Alyssa Milano.

• The Grenadiers are sick and should open for the Foo Fighters like Nation Blue did that  time.

• Josh ‘Paper Arms’ Mann has the schmickest apartment outside of the trust fund New York circle. There was a private cinema in his complex. And a gym and a tennis court. This is when we changed our name to ‘Between The Sauna And The Spa’.
MELBOURNE
• Dave got really cooked because he reckoned he broke his fingers the night before in Adelaide.

• Party Vibes, These Hands and Palisades were all sick. Old Mate from Palisades incidentally sung a song into a beer because a drunk chick at the front held it out like a microphone.

• We had a super time playing on a very dark, very hot stage.

BRISBANE
• We cruised around in a van with a broken seat. It was awesome fun.

• Nearly everyone failed at getting dinner. Jay had a Wendy’s milkshake, which was stupid of him, but not as stupid as Dave getting Red Rooster for the first time (which was fucking terrible).

• Matty grew an extra set of arms and had a sweet shred.

• Dave’s new favourite band El Alamein played.

• Fat Louie’s serve jugs of scotch and dry, which is simultaneously the stupidest and best thing ever.

• WHISKEY!

SYDNEY
• We couldn’t have asked for a better turn out, a better crowd, or better friends. Hometown launch was a blast! Now we all feel like this:

But we can’t wait to do it all again. We are in the midst of booking the next run of shows while Jay does barrel rolls in Sumatra or something. Keep an eye out, lots of dates and hopefully a heap more all ages shows announced soon!

La Dispute

Once again we had the pleasure of sharing a stage with La Dispute when they made their way out here, this time on their third tour. We got to play their all ages show at the Annandale with young guns Perspectives too. While it’s weird playing while the sun is still out it was awesome fun and great to play to a crowd younger than we generally do.

A few photos from the show have started popping up too.

Thanks to Kyliee Liddell, Dylan Van and Phoebe Steel for taking the snaps.
